The Massachusetts Orchid Society is a non-profit educational organization of individuals from all walks of life, who share an interest in orchids. These interests range from the simple appreciation of orchids as beautiful flowers to highly technical involvement in orchid breeding and taxonomy. Most MOS members are active orchid growers, growing their own plants under conditions ranging from window sills to artificial light gardens to automated greenhouses. The MOS holds monthly meetings throughout the year, encompassing a broad range of topics. The program for a typical meeting includes an orchid show table, plant sales, social time with refreshments, a short business meeting, a presentation by a guest speaker usually with slides, discussion, and Q&A, and a raffle for orchid plants. Meet the Officers, Directors and Committee Chairs who keep the MOS running smoothly. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the University of Massachusetts Suburban Experimental Station (Waltham Field Station) located at 241 Beaver St., Waltham. Directions & Map There is an orchid Library available to members, featuring videos as well as books. The Society publishes a monthly newsletter which is sent to all members. The MOS is an affiliate of the American Orchid Society. We are co-sponsors of the New England Area Speaker's Day and are the sponsoring society for the American Orchid Society's Northeast Judging Center at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston. Annually, we host our own Show (usually in the Fall), schedule a group of cultural sessions, stage some fundraising activities - such as our orchid auction, and have a Holiday party in December. Our MOS New Member Mentor Program offers a great introduction to the Society through the assistance of a current member.
